Nursery Rhymes for the 21st Century

 Namaste bloggers!

Did you know that last week was World Nursery Rhyme week?

In Tuffery Class we selected our favourite nursery rhymes and created a stop motion animation for them. We then recorded ourselves singing over the top of them. Below are some of our finished animations.

What is your favourite nursery rhyme?

Backing Team New Zealand!

 Kia ora bloggers!

This week the Year 5's and 6's were treated to an extremely special trip thanks to Emirates Team New Zealand, Genesis Energy and Spark!

We visited the ASB Waterfront Theatre where we raced Sphero Bolts around an America’s Cup course.  It was a challenging navigating but also racing through with speed! We had a great time learning how to drive the spheros and are super excited because we can take this learning back to school and teach our Year 4 peers.

We also got to test some innovative 5G technology at the Spark 5G Race Zone. We learnt about the different factors that can impact on the boat. We also got to design our own boat and then race it using a simulator.

Special thanks to Spark and Genesis Energy for offering us this amazing opportunity. This has definitely been a highlight for us in 2020.

The great news is that the Spark 5G Race Zone is also open to the public so you can check it out too!

Revolutionising School Assemblies with Google Meet

 Greetings fellow bloggers!

The weather today was rather dreary and many of us played inside as a result. Normally on a Thursday afternoon we would head to the hall for our school assembly, but today's weather prohibited us from doing so.

Instead, Miss Stirling decided to host our Hay Park Way assembly via google Meet! This meant that we all stayed dry but also got to celebrate and acknowledge many of our amazing learners.

Pule Class listening carefully for their names to be called out

Garlick Class students being acknowledged for their mahi

Ka pai to everyone who adapted to this assembly style and tried something new! 2020 is the year of resilience!

Film Festival Finalist!

 Aloha bloggers!

Last night the Ako Hiko Trust hosted the Ako Hiko Film Festival at Event Cinemas at St Lukes. It was a spectacular event with 7 Ako Hiko schools showcasing some of their amazing films.

In response to the pandemic that is happening all over the world, our theme for this year's film festival was KINDNESS.

Tuffery Class submitted a film titled "The Friendship Levels" written, directed and produced all by students aged between 8 and 11! And just to throw in an added challenge, these students had to deal with a city-wide lockdown in the middle of the creation process!

Congratulations to Miraj, Teva, Jaycob, Dayton, Aarav, Mohit and Ehmarze who worked incredibly hard last term to produce this film. A special thanks also to Gabriella who supported them.

We also had two other amazing groups of students who created movies. You can check their's out below.

Let's Learn Tongan!

Mālō e lelei bloggers!

This week is Tongan Language Week! To celebrate we have been learning a little bit of Tongan from some of our expert Tongan students. We've also been exploring how to use the online voice recorder to make our own audio clips.

As a class we worked collaboratively to create a set of slides that will help you to learn Tongan. We'd love for you to check out what we've created and try some of these new words.

If you have any feedback for us we'd also love to hear from you.

Malo 'aupito! (thank you very much)
