Conservation Week

This week across NZ it is Conservation Week. Conservation is about ensuring that our natural environment and the native flora and fauna are protected and looked after.

Conservation Week is run by DOC (The Department of Conservation) each year to encourage people to get involved in nature and help to take care of it.

Something small that I do to preserve our beautiful natural environment is to try and recycle and reuse products as much as I can! For example, I have a reusable coffee cup that I take when I go on holidays. I will often bring my lunch in a plastic container that I can reuse and wash again.

Some of my friends take a rubbish bag to the beach and will fill it with all the trash that they can find. I like this idea so I am going to try it out next time I visit the beach!

What actions could we take in our school? We already have recycling and our compost bins, but I think we could do more! I think the teachers could be better at recycling paper - or even better, reduce the amount of paper they use for printing!
